Anguilla is an island located in the eastern Caribbean Sea and is identified as a British Overseas Territory. Although only sovereign countries can be Commonwealth members, Anguilla is eligible to participate in many Commonwealth activities because it is an overseas territory of a member country, the United Kingdom.

Company Registration Services

Over the years, Anguillan officials have made efforts to establish business relationships with Hong Kong. Anguilla’s representatives made periodic trips to Hong Kong to familiarise local companies with Anguilla. For example, in 2002, two senior Anguillan government officials visited all of Anguilla’s offshore agents in Hong Kong to obtain feedback on Anguilla’s Commercial Online Registration Network (ACORN) and establish personal relationships with them.

Though Anguilla is not as well-known as other jurisdiction, it has still been an attractive location for Hong Kong businesses to do offshore company registrations. The reasons are as follow: Firstly, Anguilla’s incorporation requirements are simple and the ACORN system allows companies to be incorporated from anywhere in the world at any time at a relatively cheap cost. Secondly, Anguilla is a zero tax jurisdiction that provides numerous corporate tax planning benefits. Thirdly, Anguilla is politically stable and its legal system is based on the English common law like that of Hong Kong.

Trade

The two places have also traded with each other in the past. According to trade data provided by The Observatory of Economic Complexity in 2008, there was a total of $72.1 thousand of exports from Hong Kong to Anguilla and $533M of exports from Anguilla to Hong Kong. From 2000 to 2008, there had been an increasing trend of exports from Hong Kong to Anguilla at an annualised rate of 6.69%. However, in 2008, Anguilla did not export any services to Hong Kong.
