The Cocos (Keeling) Islands is an external territory of Australia, a Commonwealth member state. It is an external territory of Australia located in the eastern Indian Ocean. The island lies 3,685 km west of Darwin which is located in the northern Australian coast. Cocos Islands are made up of two coral atolls.

Economy

Economic activity on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands is limited. Most people work in the public sector, while the largest private-sector activity is service provision to the community. While the Cocos (Keeling) Islands is an ideal location for a wide range of water activities like snorkelling and kitesurfing, constrained by the limited number of tourist accommodation and low frequency of air services to and from the islands, the tourism industry remains modest.
